Nicollette Sheridan played the role of Edie Britt in the hit television drama 'Desperate Housewives." Her character was a no-nonsense, say it like it is female real-estate dealer who was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs and the rights she knew she was entitled to.
It seems as though her vivacious character's personality may not be far off from her real life confidence and self-assurance with her rights. Sheridan filed a wrongful termination suit in a Los Angeles court this past year that is set to begin this upcoming October 8, 2011 as the shows eighth and reportedly final season starts.
According to the multi-million dollar lawsuit filed last year, the wrongful termination resulted after she spoke up about her opinions concerning a specific script. When she voiced her ideas, Marc Cherry, the show's creator, reportedly slapped her across the face. After she complained to producers about his offensive behavior, her employment was terminated by Cherry.
After her character was killed off by electrocution from a power line, the show continued to have success, and Sheridan claims that she was entitled to two more seasons worth of wages that she was not paid. The judge later ruled that the star would only be entitled to one season's worth, which would amount to approximately $980,000.
The presiding judge also asked that the show's producers and the Hollywood star try to come to an agreement to settle the case. It is unclear whether an agreement will be made on the wrongful termination and gender discrimination claims.
